As BelltreesandMore.com continues as a work in progress with an ever increasing inventory of selections, I am introducing a new set of Handbell Tree solos. Seven Christmas Carols for a Handbell Tree Solo - Set 1 is now available on this website.
Enthusiastic handbell tree performers have been requesting arrangements for medleys of Christmas carols that can be performed as a solo without accompaniment. This is something that I have been doing for several years during this holiday season in a variety of locations. These are just a few venue ideas for the use of a handbell tree solo:
- Ringing as a greeting in the narthex of a sanctuary while people are entering a worship service
- Playing an introduction to a hymn
- Processing down an aisle in a concert or worship setting
- Performing at a mall
- Volunteering as the “bell ringer” in front of a local store for the Salvation Army annual Christmas fund drive . . . By the way, it was amazing how many active listeners stayed around and generously donated to the Salvation Army cause during that hour. From time to time, it turned into a sing- along.
- Performing at a holiday celebration party as the hosts are welcoming their guests into their home . . . This also turned into a sing- along from time to time.
- Joining the Christmas carolers as they travel through a neighborhood spreading the beauty of Christmas music
- If you run out of ideas, take a walk around your own neighborhood all by yourself, and ring out the joy of ringing a belltree! (I’d love to hear from you if you give this one a try!)
These carols may be performed using a belltree stand. It is not always necessary for a belltree to process. Each carol flows into the next carol. If you need less time to perform, it is not necessary to ring all 7 carols. You may stop at the end of any of these carols. The title appears above the staff at the beginning of each carol. A double bar line indicates each new carol, and any time signature or key signature changes. Tempo alterations and dynamics are suggested.
